SUBMISSION GUIDLINES FOR SLIDELUCK POTSHOW XV

RSVP for the event here.

Thank you for your interest in showing work at Slideluck Potshow XV in New York as part of the New York Photo Festival! Presentations are a maximum of 5 minutes each, but most are much shorter, and we recommend between 15-40 images. We accept work in digital format only. We encourage all types of media that can be presented within this framework, be it painting, sculpture, or installation art. However, they must be comprised mainly of still images – film and video will only be considered in certain circumstances. Multimedia pieces using video as punctuation are welcomed. When presenting photographs, there are many ways to go about it. One should not be afraid of making thoughtful observations on the theme, creating narratives, combining live music, speaking, or even performing with images. We want to see good work, but it need not be safe. Show us work in progress, outtakes from a job - or if that makes you uneasy - show us your absolute finest work, because we like that too.

Keeping in the spirit of the New York Photo Festival, we will be bringing in some of NY's finest to help curate the show: David Alan Harvey (National Geographic, Magnum, Burn), W.M. Hunt (Hasted Hunt Kraueutler, SVA), and Jae Choi (The Collective Shift).

The theme of our fourteenth show in New York is BRIDGES. Please feel free to get creative in your interpretation of the theme! Also, this outdoor space can be very loud so keep that in mind when selecting your audio track. Anything with critical sound/dialogue might be inadvisable.

Because of the number of submissions we receive, we now curate the slideshows to keep it at a maximum of 90 minutes. We will mainly be judging the submissions on range and diversity of subject matter. Our intent is to be inclusive and to provide as many people the possibility for expression as possible, and if we are unable to include your work for the show you originally submitted, we will always keep your work in mind for future shows. That being said, please try to be cognizant of your audience and exercise discipline in your editing process!

Please note that there is a $15 submission processing fee. Please click here to complete the payment.

DIGITAL IMAGE GUIDELINES:

1. All images should be in JPEG format.
2. All images must be in an RGB colorspace - they look best in sRGB but even if they are black and white images they must be RGB and not grayscale.
3. Your images should be 1024 x 768 pixels @ 300dpi. Vertical images should not exceed 768 height, and horizontal images should not exceed 1024 width. Square images should be 768 x 768.
4. Name your files with your initials followed by a 2-digit Serial Number. For example, JK01.jpg, JK02.jpg, JK03.jpg. The serial number should suggest the order in which you want the slides presented.
5. Please also make the following slides/ jpegs:
a. Title slide(s) - jpeg with your name (and the title of the project if applicable) for the beginning of your slideshow. This should be labeled with your initials followed by “00” (eg., JK00). The Name slide must be the first slide in your show. You can create a separate slide for the title of your project if you prefer (JK00A, JK00B).
b. Music credit slide (jpeg). Remember that these should also be legible when scaled down for the website.
c. End slide (jpeg) with your contact info, or representation, labeled with your initials followed by the last two serial numbers in your project.
6. Choose and include an audio file, such as music or an interview in an MP3 format only - this is required. No slideshows will be played silently. If you are considering having live music, please contact us to discuss arrangements. If you are having trouble thinking of a song or audio piece, please clearly note this in your email to the submission team, and we may be able to help.
7. Fill out the questionnaire below as a text file.
8. Place all components in one folder, titled with your FULL NAME as you'd like it to appear in all contexts.
9. Email submissions@slideluckpotshow.com for FTP info - please clearly state which city you are requesting info for, as we are sometimes working on many shows at a time.
10. If applicable, please pay your submission fee through PayPal (link will be provided in FTP email.)
11. Upload your COMPLETE submission via FTP (see instructions below)*
12. Email submissions@slideluckpotshow.com with a copy of the questionnaire, only after you have successfully uploaded your folder. Please do not ask for confirmation that we have received it - we apologize, but we receive too many emails to answer them all personally.
13. We will notify artists the week of the show to announce who will be presenting!

MULTIMEDIA SUBMISSIONS:

We accept only Quicktime (.mov) files formatted at exactly 1024 x 768 pixels. They should be exported using the H.264 Codec, and be a maximum of about 250 MB, and no longer than 5 minutes. Please make sure that your piece begins with a clear title including your name, and ends with proper credits including contact information. We cannot accept Soundslides files, flash files or other formats.

DELIVERY OF SUBMISSION:

All entries must be submitted with all above components by the submission deadline for consideration. Please follow the submission guidelines carefully.

* Images must be uploaded via an FTP program- you cannot access our ftp server via the internet. If you are unfamiliar with how to FTP, first download a free program: Cyberduck or RBrowserLite for Macs or Core FTP for PCs. Then, simply open the program, enter the FTP information emailed to you into the proper fields, and log-in. Then, simply drag and drop your folder into the SUBMISSIONS folder on the server. It may seem to disappear, but you should get some form of confirmation when it's successfully uploaded. Please do not upload multiple times unless it stalls.

Maplewood New Jersey, or as I like to call it, Brooklyn west.

CK - Might I suggest Beacon as a future NYC alternative? Beacon weather kicks ass in the summer and a permit for the riverfront park, adjacent to the train station, costs maybe $200 max.

If anyone would like to fund the next show in NYC, please step forward. Truthfully, there will not be another show in New York without proper funding.

About time you brought it over to Brooklyn. Tired of all the smelly smokers trying to get their nicotine fix on in the small hallway areas of the chosen cramped studios. Yes cramped when you got like 500 people! Good choice on locations. No problem with room!
Can't wait...

At the moment, we are looking for an outdoor space for a show in July or August. We are actually planning to leave Manhattan for the first time and are scouring Brooklyn and Queens for the perfect spot. We are open to suggestion, but will surely let all know when we have nailed it down!

*We are also looking for a good theme for this show. Ideas welcome.
