**Deadline for Submissions: EXTENDED to FRIDAY, September 24th, 2010 at midnight!! There's still time to get your work in!**The guest curator for SLPS-SF is Laura Brunow Miner - an editor, designer and photography lover in San Francisco, and founder of pictorymag.com and phootcamp.com.Thank you for your interest in showing work at Slideluck Potshow San Francisco III (SLPS-SF)! Presentations are a maximum of 5 minutes each, but most are much shorter, and we recommend between 15-40 images. We accept work in digital format only. We encourage all types of media that can be presented within this framework, be it painting, sculpture, or installation art. However, they must be comprised mainly of still images - no film or video will be considered, although multimedia pieces using video as punctuation can be submitted. When presenting photographs, there are many ways to go about it. One should not be afraid of making thoughtful observations, creating narratives, combining live music, speaking, or even performing with images. We want to see good work, but it need not be safe. Show us work in progress, outtakes from a job or if that makes you uneasy, show us your absolute finest work, because we like that, too.
Because of the overwhelming number of submissions we receive, we now curate the slideshows to keep it at a maximum of 90 minutes. We will mainly be judging the submissions on range and diversity of subject matter. Our intent is to be inclusive and to provide as many people the possibility for expression as possible, and if we are unable to include your work for the show you originally submitted, we will always keep your work in mind for future shows. That being said, try to be cognizant of your audience and please exercise discipline in your editing process!
The theme for SLPS-SF IV is
SUSTAIN. SLPS is a place to share your work as artists with the community. And this time we'd like to share with the community what SUSTAIN means to you.
By definition sustain is a parameter of musical sound over time. As its name implies, it denotes the period of time during which the sound remains before it becomes inaudible, or silent. What sustains you as an artist - in your vision, your life, your world? Is it about sustainability and the capacity to endure or sustenance, a means of livelihood, your bread and butter? Is it the work itself - the process?
Far too often we make work for other people, based on what we think they want to see. For this slideshow, we're asking you to show us a cohesive body of work that represents what gets you out of bed in the morning. The work that you stay up late working on after you've made the art that pays the bills. We want to see what the world looks like through your eyes when there's not an editor or a client in the back of your mind. If we all share what sustains us, it seems inevitable that we'll start to value that kind of work more, and help create a community that sustains itself and the art that we love.
As usual, part of the show will be un-themed as well, so don’t hesitate to submit work outside the theme.
We look forward to receiving your submissions and to seeing you and your friends and colleagues at the event on
Saturday, October 9, 2010.
