SLIDELUCK POTSHOW

What magic would it take on my part to import a little taste of NY into my new-found home in Dallas TX. I promise to bring a very garlicky potato salad to the potluck and talk my way into a cool screen for the show....
Any other Texans out there willing to help me?
The weather outside is grand here in November!

Hey Erica,
Would be happy to talk about it sometime soon. I think there is a strong movement for a show in Austin this fall, so perhaps a Dallas one could happen around the same time. Our main concern at this point is that we are able to secure local funding for each new launch to cover travel and production costs. Do you think this is a possibility? And do you see much of a community to support this project?
Thanks for your interest!
Best,
Casey

I think there would be plenty of grassroots interest, but you'd have to talk to dragon street gallery folks or deep ellum art association to find funding. Space and turnout wouldn't be a problem but I'm not a fundraiser and not in the art scene. Still, i'd be happy to help spread the word if it was gonna happen.

Well all of a sudden there seems to be an undeniable groundswell of interest for Slideluck Potshow in Dallas! We’ve gotten a number of requests coming through email as well.

Ok, it’s great to see such enthusiasm, and it’s funny, because we were using Dallas as an example in a meeting today. We are currently developing a “How to Launch a Slideluck Potshow” Manual that we plan to have completed by Labor Day. It’s a tremendous effort, but it’s going to really help in situations like this, where the spirit is there, but the steps towards implementation are unclear.

The most important thing that you all should know is that launching a Slideluck Potshow is a collaborative process, in which you would work with our team in New York to produce the show and then two of us would fly down and we would launch the show together. When a community decides to do a Slideluck Potshow, it’s not an isolated event, they enter into something much larger (our global network of artists and creatives) and their work will be archived along all of the others on the website. In order to launch in Dallas, we have to figure out a time that’s mutually agreeable as well. Right now, that would probably not be before mid-September.

The basic requirements are as follow:
We need to form a team of people with different talents/skills/connections to produce the show on the ground.
We need to find a space that will host up to about 200 people, that is willing to donate it to us for the night. We’ve never paid for a space and it brings goodwill, potential clients, and press to them.
We need to find sources of local funding to pay for production and travel costs. A good number to shoot for is $2500.

There is obviously a lot more than goes into this, but this is a starting point. Please let me know if you all are interested in proceeding!

Warm Regards from New York,
Casey

Casey, I'm glad you're going to release a manual on how to start a Slideluck. Having just relocated to Madison, WI I am eager to start one here (though I have to get to know the town more and do some more networking first, obviously, but it's in the back of my mind.) There are a lot of questions so a manual would be great!

Great news! glad to hear interest is growing. I'm a preschool teacher so I don't have a lot of leads on big bucks but I'd be glad to help out with a team to make this happen and I would expect the dragon street art crowd would be excited. Can the venue be somewhat outdoorsy? What type of equipment would it require? and what are some examples of the size/type of donors you got? Is it restaurants? galleries?

Hey Everyone,
Would love to continue this conversation now that we're done with the NYC show. Have a lot of bookings coming up this fall, but would love to speak to someone in person. Marla, would that be you? Can you send me your email/phone number?
Cheers,
Casey
